WORKSHOPS

Cyanotype Printing (Botanical Taster Workshop)

We’re excited to introduce you to the fun and magic of a creating cyanotypes using a beautiful historical photographic process.

You don’t need any experience, just your curiosity and willingness to experiment with us.  We will assist you in creating your own artwork using a selection of local botanicals, feathers, lace etc.  The process is both mindful and rewarding, offering a digital detox and chance to slow down and appreciate art forms in nature.

Cyanotype is one of the oldest camera-less photographic processes introduced by Sir John Herschel in 1842. It is a non-toxic printing technique where ultraviolet light sensitive chemicals are applied to paper. Objects are arranged and laid out on the paper and exposed to ultra violet light, then the magic happens! Exposure to UV light produces beautiful vibrant blue prints which are then 'developed' in clean water & hung up to dry.

For Taster Sessions, we will provide all the materials including pre prepared paper with chemicals already applied to allow as much creativity time as possible. We will also be focusing on nature inspired prints but have the opportunity to discuss other exciting cyanotype projects using negatives, fabrics, wood – the options are endless. We will be running follow up workshops to cover these options.

We hope you enjoy the workshop and look forward to meeting you!.
